Lettland hat gegen Großbritannien früh für klare Verhältnisse gesorgt und das Spiel nach zwei Dritteln praktisch entschieden. Beim 6:0 blieb der grosse Spannungsbogen aus – die Letten nutzten ihre Chancen, Grossbritannien fand offensiv kaum statt.
Nach dem frühen lettischen Druck war die Richtung schnell klar. Dzierkals, Smirnovs und Balcers stellten bereits im ersten Drittel auf 3:0. Im zweiten Abschnitt legten Tralmaks, Egle und Krastenbergs nach, womit die Partie endgültig entschieden war.
Grossbritannien blieb über weite Strecken im eigenen Drittel hängen, nahm mehrere Strafen und kam kaum zu längeren Entlastungsphasen. Auch der Torhüterwechsel änderte am Spielbild wenig.Lettland musste am Ende nicht mehr viel Spektakel liefern. Die Pflicht war erledigt, Grossbritannien verwaltete nur noch den Schaden – und das Spiel verabschiedete sich ungefähr so leise, wie es begonnen hatte.
